It therefore cannot be ignored.
For businesses, social media has become an important marketing tool. Companies use social media to find and engage with customers, increase sales through advertising and promotion, identify and understand fast-changing consumer trends, provide customer service or support, and sometimes secretly collect data about users.

For better or worse, social media continues to rapidly reshape our lives, capturing more than 4.7 billion users worldwide. From a business perspective, it has also revolutionized commerce and looks set to continue to do so.
